Yes, it’s time for the Freelance Forecast 2012 survey—an annual forum for freelancers and clients who hire freelance creatives to opine on the best (and worst) practices in the industry, assess their results in 2011 and offer their insights on expectations for 2012.
As in the past, there are two separate surveys. If you are a freelancer who also contracts work, or a client-sider who does moonlight freelancing, you’re welcome to take both.
- The “Freelance Perspectives” survey can be found here.
- The “Client Perspectives” survey can be found here.
Please use Twitter, Google+, Facebook, etc., to spread the word to fellow freelancers and clients—the more the merrier. All contact information and individual responses are kept 100% confidential and are used only for purposes of compiling the results.
All participants receive a copy of the results and will be entered into a drawing for a $100 iTunes or Staples gift certificate. Both surveys will close on February 15.
Thank you for taking the time to participate and share your opinions! You can download 2009, 2010 and 2011 results here.

My how time flies. Love that you do this, Jake-sharing….
Thanks for sharing it with your network, Cathy. I chose to do the survey in January this year to experiment if I could get more responses outside the holiday rush. We’ll see!
I’ve spread word on the Five Buck Forum and other places, Jake. Love this survey. Thanks for doing it every year!
Thanks for getting out the bullhorn, as always, Lori!
Hello Jake,
I’ve been a fan of your survey/report for months. Informative, simple to understand, well organized, unbiased, respectful of participants, genuine… tres bien!
We have a site launching very soon that we believe will be a huge hit in the outsource world. Our clients are international freelancers and businesses (primarily entrepreneur and SMB for the first year, but big business soon). I’m pasting in a high level summary of our services below, hoping it sparks your interest because I’d like to not only promote your survey to our base, but perhaps work with you directly somehow. First things first, see if this overview sparks your interest. If so, I can be reached at ariel [at] outsourceexpo [dot] com.
Thanks again for your survey, an asset to the freelancer/outsourcing industry! I’ll also bookmark this blog site, I just came across it recently but will visit often.

Onshore, nearshore, and offshore professionals, OutsourceExpo will serve as a destination site to connect people with all things outsourcing in new and smart ways; businesses looking for freelancers, virtual staffing, freelancers/ICs looking for work, outsource/BPO vendor services, industry experts, and a wide range of next-gen services typically detached from the outsource industry yet critical for entrepreneur and early stage business growth. Not only will OutsourceExpo allow for the relationship connections, it will also provide the software to automate the services and communication.

Nice job as ever Jake. Looking forward to the results. Actually I’m also looking forward to reading more of you.
